Espressioni
It’s drizzling- pioviggina. Esempio: When they left it was beginning to drizzle.
I got drenched- mi sono infradiciato. Esempio: We were caught in the storm and got drenched to the skin.
I got caught in the rain- ho preso acqua
The weather is changeable – il tempo è variabile. Esempio: The weather is very changeable at this time of year.
Flash flood- inondazione improvvisa. Esempio: More than 80 people were feared dead last night after flash floods, the worst in 34 years.
Cold spell- periodo freddo. Esempio: The flowers died during a cold spell.
It’s toasty- fa caldo. Esempio: My feet feel so warm and toasty in the new slippers.
A spell of good weather- period. di bel tempo
It’s foggy- c’è nebbia- Esempio: He was driving much too fast for the foggy conditions.
It’s misty- è nebbioso (meno di “foggy”)- Esempio: The morning will start off misty.
It’s windy- c’è vento- Esempio: it was wet and windy for most of the week.

Pioggia
Downpour- forte pioggia- Esempio: The rains were so heavy prior to the final downpour and flooding that the flood plains were already saturated.
Drought- siccità- Esempio: This year (a) severe drought has ruined the crops.
Cloudburst- acquazzone/ scroscio. Esempio: The torrent capacity can quickly grow after copious rainfalls, specifically after late-summer cloudbursts.
Deluge- diluvio. Esempio: This little stream can become a deluge when it rains heavily.
Drizzle- pioggerella. Esempio: Tomorrow will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle.
Puddle- pozzanghera. Esempio: You have to step around the puddles in the street after a rain shower.
A drop of rain – goccia di pioggia. Esempio: The weather was sublime – not a drop of rain.
Heavy rain/ torrential rain- pioggia torrenziale. Esempio: We had heavy rain all day.
To pour down- diluviare (utilizzato maggiormente in America). Esempio: After nearly two weeks of drought, it was such a relief for the rain to come pouring down again.
To pour with rain- diluviare (utilizzato maggiormente nel Regno Unito). Esempio: It was pouring with rain as we drove up to the supermarket.
To bucket down- diluviare. Esempio: It’s absolutely bucketing down, take an umbrella.
Rainbow- arcobaleno. Esempio: Look over there – there’s a rainbow!
Neve
Slush- neve che sis ta sciogliendo. Esempio: The city’s streets were covered with dirty, grey slush.
Temperatura
Boiling hot: caldissimo. Esempio: Last summer was boiling hot in Florence, the average temperature was 40 degrees!
Hot: caldo. Esempio: I can’t believe how hot it is today… 36 degrees!
Mild: temperato. Esempio: The weather in my country is mild in spring.
Warm: caldo/mite. Esempio: Are you warm enough or do you want me to put the heating on?
Chilly: freddino. Esempio: It’s chilly today, so I think I’ll wear a coat and a hat.
Freezing cold: freddissimo. Esempio: I wanted to go ice skating the other day, but it was freezing cold and I decided to stay home.
Degrees Celsius: Gradi Celsius. Esempio: In autumn, the average temperature here is 15 degrees Celsius.
To go below zero: temperature sotto zero. Esempio: In Canada, the temperature often goes below zero in winter.
Cool breeze: brezza fresca. Esempio: Spring is a period that brings a cool breeze in the evenings and new flowers blossom.
